If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message by email (sent through Resend) so we can reply.

This information is collected through standard web server logs and the analytics tools listed below (Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Web Analytics) to understand site usage and improve our service.

Information Sent to Third Parties From Your Browser

Pages on this site make your browser send information directly to these services (外部送信 / external transmission):

• Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC): loaded on every page. Sends the pages you view, referrer, device and browser details, approximate location derived from your IP address, and a cookie-based identifier (_ga cookies) so Google can measure visits for us. See how Google uses this data. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
• Vercel Web Analytics (Vercel Inc.): loaded on every page. Sends the pages you view, referrer, and device, browser and country information to count visits. It does not set cookies.
• Wise affiliate link (Wise, via the Partnerize network): only if you click the Wise card. The link goes through /wise and redirects to Partnerize (wise.prf.hn), which records the click and may set cookies so Wise can credit us with a referral commission.

Links to Jozu and Kantan Health (made by the same person who runs Japan News) carry tracking parameters (utm_source=japannews) in the URL so we can see visits that came from this site; they do not set cookies on this site.

How We Use Your Information

Email Address

• Wise / Partnerize: only when you click the Wise affiliate link

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

• Email subscription data: Retained until you unsubscribe
• Server logs: Retained for 90 days
• Google Analytics data: kept according to our Google Analytics retention setting, then deleted by Google
• Vercel Web Analytics data: aggregated visit counts

Your data may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries (Vercel, Resend, Supabase and Google servers). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
